Copyright disclaimer:

Much, but not all, of the software on this page is "free" or "open-source" software. People can't even seem to agree as to whether the people using one term or the other even disagree about anything other than terminology. I am not going to get involved. In any case, those terms describe much, though by no means all, of the software on this page. Each of the packages linked here has its own licensing information included. I have determined that what I have posted here is legally re-distributable from me to you under my local laws. The rest is your problem.

Cryptographic software:

Tera Term Pro v2.3:

Description:
Local copies:
This is a versatile, extensible, reliable terminal emulator for Windoze 95/98/NT. With the addition of an SSH extension module, it also enables encrypted shell sessions. You must download the SSH extension separately, unzip it, and move the contents into the Tera Term program folder in order to use the encryption features.

Speak Freely v7.1:

Description:
Local copies:
Speak Freely is an encrypted voice communications system for Windoze and Unix. It uses the internet to transmit encrypted voice data between two parties. See the official site for more information. There is also an X11 front-end, X Speak Freely, available for the Unix version. Windoze users do not need this, because the Windoze version includes a graphical interface.

GPG - the GNU Privacy Guard:

Description:
Local copies:
The GNU Privacy Guard is, as you might expect, and open-source replacement for PGP. GPG is a fully compliant implementation of the OpenPGP standard. GPG can be used to encrypt and decrypt e-mail or other files, using either symmetric or asymmetric encryption ("conventional" or "public-key"), as well as to provide authentication of the identity of a correspondent. More information can be found at the official distribution site. Be warned - the Windoze version is ALPHA and it is therefore recommended that you not trust it for anything except for signature verification.

Other Software:

Arachnophillia 4.0

Description:
Local copies:
This is, in my opinion, the best HTML editor other than HTML mode in Emacs. If you are learning HTML, or want some WYSIWYG features, but also want to actually see your HTML and be able to write it directly, this is an excellent program to develop in. It's very well featured,, and has an interesting license. Read about all of that at the official page.
